OS3 and Looney Toons 2D Rough animations

For any tough physical shot I will plan out my shot in Flash first. Here are some examples! These are all from shots that I posted in my blog the other day.

Open Season 3

Well, Open Season 3 is out on DVD, and last night ReelFX got to see the finished product at a screening here in Dallas, with director Cody Cameron in attendance (he is pretty much the coolest guy, ever).

The screening was incredible!!! ReelFX really knocked it out of the park. I don't think there is a single animated CGI animated film out there with the same budget constraints (and some budget constraints they were) that looked this good from all departments. I want to congratulate everyone on a job very, very well done.

This was my first job as a lead animator, and I was in charge of the three bears -- Boog, Doug, and Ursa. Talk about sexy, sexy learning experiences. And whats more sexy than bears? Nothing.

It was really great to hear some of my shots get some major laughs. Ain't nothing more an animator could ask for. Except maybe to get some people to cry, but it wasn't really that kind of movie. :D

NEXT UP we have some behind the scenes action, in case you were wondering how I draw these comics. Starting with the script from Rob:

"5: Cam girl, lowering a strap and biting her lip "any cute guys in here want to chat? PM me" Zombie gets up and makes a move towards rickrollin' Norris

6: End with Kid yelling - "TITS OR GTFO!" Camgirl just about to show said tits.Zombie gnawing on Chuck Norris' head, still weakly singing. LOLcat hangs self, holding note that says "i can be an hero?""

This is the super rough version, I will draw the whole page at once (not zoomed in) like this. I am mainly figuring out the talk bubble placement and compositions.

 

Here is where I am actually figuring out the characters anatomy and detail. I try to keep this quick so that I can maintain some energetic linework.

 And of course, final linework and then final coloring. For coloring I will use the paint inside function in flash so that I dont have color lines overlapping the black outlines. I'll usually use 1-2 dark tones and 1 bright tone. Closeups always get special treatment, stuff that is farther away is usually done roughly since these comics can take around 8-14 hours to complete!!!

Go now!!! First webcomic is up, along with a really crappy temporary website. Trust me, it's super temporary. Gonna look a LOT better. Mayhaps thanks to the great and excellent Justin Scheetz. We'll see.
